The combustion engine found in a hybrid car still requires fuel in its operation. This fuel can be in the form of gasoline, diesel, ethanol or hydrogen.
The benefits of the combination between electric and fuel burning power equates to a fuel efficient and clean burning engine that can provide, for some hybrid cars, up to 66 miles per gallon. These benefits are realized as the hybrid car never idles and operates as an electric car when traveling at low speeds.

Additionally, an added benefit includes a decrease in emissions to the environment by over one half in comparison to a traditional automobile.
